Wiser's Whisky Distillery was established in Prescott, Ontario in 1857. In the early 1900s, Wiser's was the third largest distillery in Canada, producing high-quality whisky that supplied markets in Canada and the United States, China and the Philippine Islands. In 1911, the company employed over 100 workers in the distillery operation. But with the death of J.P. Wiser the company struggled and was sold to Corby Distilleries and production was moved to the Belleville area in 1932. Since at least the 1980s, Wiser's Canadian Whisky has been distilled and bottled at the Hiram Walker & Sons distillery in Windsor (now owned by the French firm Pernod Ricard), and aged in the Pike Creek area of Lakeshore.

Wiser's Reserve is a Canadian whisky made in limited batches by Corby Distillery Limited in Belleville, Ontario, Canada. Said to be made from J.P. Wiser's personal recipe, this whisky is notable for having a 43.4% ABV content.
In 2007 the batch was bottled in collectible bottles to commemorate the Saskatchewan Roughriders Grey Cup win that year.[1]
Wiser's Reserve was tasted by Martine Nouet and Dave Broom in issue 62 of Whisky Magazine. They rated it 6¾ and 8¼ respectively, Nouet finding the finish "bitter" and Broom commenting "It's almost like a pudding whisky, but has balance."[2] Tastings rated it 92 points (exceptional) and noted it had won International Review of Spirits Award: Gold Medal [3]
Wiser's submissions to international spirit ratings competitions have generally garnered good, if unspectacular results. The Very Old whisky has performed the best, winning a gold medal at the 2005 San Francisco World Spirits Competition and earning a score of 90 from the Beverage Testing Institute.[4] The Reserve and the Deluxe each has won a silver medal from the San Francisco Competition and a score of 87 from the Beverage Testing Institute.[5]
